 Dear Colleagues and Scientists,

Siverek is located in the heart of Mesopotamia. A district of Şanlıurfa Province, Siverek is located in the southeast of Turkey. The town is endowed with rich data in terms of cultural and historical memory as well as socioeconomic structure. The district carries the traces of historical, cultural, social and economic events that has shaped the region throughout history. Since the antiquity, Siverek has been ruled by the Assyrians, Arabs, Greeks and the Ottomans, and therefore, the district carries various traces of these civilizations. Modern-day town economy is primarily based on farming, livestock production, and transportation.

The symposium, entitled “History, Society, and Economy,” is a product of an effort to understand the evolving ties among various disciplines. On the one hand, it is aimed to analyze the recent economic, ontological, historical and spatial codes of the region, and on the other hand, it is an attempt to form future projections in the field of social sciences.

The symposium aims to encourage seeking new and creative solutions to the problems encountered in the implementation of social studies, and in particular, in the applications of theoretical knowledge. It is hoped that such goals have a better chance of coming to fruition through the establishment of cooperative efforts. It is upon this foundation that the symposium theme is entitled “Siverek: History, Society and Economy”.

Based upon each of the following sub-themes and without any clear-cut disciplinary boundaries, we welcome descriptive, explanatory, interpretative, and exploratory papers. The symposium also welcomes research challenging interdisciplinary boundaries. Accordingly, the symposium targets the contribution of academics from international trade, history, sociology, philosophy, anthropology, literature, international relations, theology, economics, law, art history, archeology, architecture and many other disciplines.

Social sciences constitute an essential component of education life. We all have a part to play and take responsibility as social science researchers. We invite researchers from diverse social science disciplines to contribute papers.

On behalf of the organizing committee, we look forward to welcoming you to Siverek.
